A new library for Birkby Fartown

A new library is being built in the Birkby and Fartown area of Huddersfield, due to open in late spring of 2021.  There was a library on Wasp Nest Road from 2006 to 2018, however we had to move out of that premises to allow the Junior School to create much needed classroom space.  We’ve been looking for a new home ever since and are excited that work has now started on building a brand new, purpose-built library on Lea Street, HD1 6HF.

Community Engagement

Since commencing the work of our new Birkby Fartown library in November 2020 we have commissioned Edgelands Arts to deliver an exciting consultation with residents in the local area. They’ll encourage participants to share their thoughts; discussing ideas around what their new library service will look like. Their finished artwork will bring together the ambitions and voices of those in the community.

Surveys will also be available to residents to ensure that we offer the best service we can. We will be collating feedback based on what activities residents would like to see in their new library and what opening times would work best for them.
