Fair Trade Fortnight 2021
22nd February – 7th March 2021
This year, to compliment our Fair Trade events aimed at adults, we wanted something just for our younger audience, so we’ve collaborated with Fair Trade campaigner and Kirklees Libraries’ Writer in Residence, Chris Longden and illustrator Stephen Waterhouse (who’s been working to promote Fair Trade chocolate for over 14 years!)
I have been involved in the world of fairer trading since I lived and worked in the Kalahari bush with some of the world’s poorest people. Since I returned to live in the UK, I have been working with the country’s only charity that focuses on fairer trading and the needs of the world’s poorest farmers (the Lorna Young Foundation.)

I graduated from Loughborough University in 1998 and have been working as a freelance illustrator for over 20 years. Originally from Kirklees, I now live in North Yorkshire, England and am very passionate about creating colourful artwork for children’s books, cards, jigsaws, posters, magazines and Advent Calendars for clients in the UK, Europe and the USA.
One of my favourite jobs is to work with Fairtrade Chocolate producer, Divine Chocolate to illustrate their chocolate Advent Calendar, which I’ve done for the past 14 years.
I’m also especially proud of my three atlases…My Pop-Up World Atlas, My Pop-Up Atlas of People and My Pop-Up City Atlas, which I created for Templar Publishing. I believe it is so important to introduce children to different places and cultures around the World, so I’m grateful to be able to help with this, through these books, which are designed for 6-12 year olds.
