Mabel may be small but she has some BIG PLANS …
Introducing the marvellous Mabel – an adventurous fly who dreams of climbing mountains.
This positive picture book will inspire readers big and small to follow their hearts and face new challenges.
Kim Hillyard is a writer, illustrator and picture book maker. After studying Drama at Exeter University she worked as an arts facillitator and then as a music journalist before realising that her true passion lay with working with children and young people. Kim taught herself how to illustrate and her first book ‘Mabel and the Mountain’ was then published – a story described by Kim as ‘all about believing in yourself’
Mabel and the Mountain has won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards 2020 best picture book in association with the BookTrust.
Kim’s second picture book “Ned and the Great Garden Hamster Race” was published in January 2021 and is described as “the perfect story to remind children about the importance of kindness” by Fox Lane Books. Kim will be telling us more about this wonderful story in the session also.
“Hillyard’s first picture book is tremendously appealing, both for the brave-hearted Mabel who inspires her friends to achieve their dreams, and for Hillyard’s painted illustration which bursts off the page with a kind of unrestrained joy. It’s a lovely book about the power of believing in yourself, expressed simply and with impact.” The BookTrust
