Online Resources

Kirklees libraries hold a large collection of books and other material such as maps, photographs and local newspapers relating to the Kirklees area. They also hold subscriptions to specialist information websites on behalf of their customers.

Some special information is available at all libraries, others can be accessed at specific libraries only and several can be accessed anywhere via the internet as long as you have library membership.

 

Access to Research

Access to Research gives free access to over 10 million academic articles in participating public libraries across the UK.

Ancestry

Information for family historians including Census records from 1841-1901 and birth, marriage and burial indexes from 1837-2004.

Library members are now able to access Ancestry from home. Please go to Kirklees Online Library and login to your library account. Once logged in, you will see a link to Ancestry Library.

If you are not a library member, you can join online at Join Kirklees Libraries.

British Newspaper Archive

Access to newspapers from the British Library’s vast collection of local and regional newspapers, covering the 19th and 20th centuries.

Cobra

A business tool with information for starting up a business, market research, a legal library and a wealth of useful contact organisations.

Go Citizen

Go Citizen is an online study resource for candidates preparing for the Life in the UK test or British Citizenship test.

Pressreader Digital Newspapers and Magazines

Choose from over 7000 national and international titles in over 60 languages, including many daily and weekend UK newspaper titles and magazine favourites.

Read online or create an account to download for offline convenience with dedicated Android or Apple apps.

This can be accessed on any Kirklees library computer or via library Wi-Fi. Go to: Press Reader  and you will automatically gain access and be able to read titles online.

This can also be accessed at home or on your mobile device. Go to: Press Reader . Select Kirklees or type in the search box. Enter your library number and PIN. Download the appropriate Android or Apple app for optimised mobile viewing.

After 30 days you will need to log in again to re-authenticate your complimentary Kirklees Library access.

Theory Test Pro

Theory Test Pro is a highly reliable online simulation of the UK’s driving theory tests for all vehicle categories. It contains all the official test questions licensed by the Driving Standards Agency.

Which? tests products side by side against the competition, to give you honest unbiased reviews and practical advice that helps you choose from 1000s of products.

Digital Reading 

Libby

Did you know that you can read or listen to books online through Kirklees Libraries? Libby is a free app which offers an ever-growing library of ebooks and audiobooks online. You can access Libby on your smartphone or tablet just by searching for it in your device’s app store.

You can search for books in various categories from African American Fiction to Young Adult Nonfiction, or browse collections with themes like Mental Health Awareness Week and Novels That Shaped the World.

When accessing the ebook or audiobook of your choosing, you can alter the text size and set a reading speed respectively. Here are some handy instructions to help.

To log into Libby, you will need your library card number (the long number near the barcode) and your four-digit PIN. If you don’t know what that is, you can ring Kirklees Libraries at 01484 414868 to find out.
